Elvis on Black Velvet at Christmas time

I know, it's 1 week into January, 2013 already and I'm just getting around to documenting Christmas of 2012. This was the first time, in like, 40 years that I did not have my wrapping and most of my baking done by the end of November. Downloaded a class on wrapping presents, in hopes of prettily getting rid of all the reams of holiday paper that I have squirrled away in the attic. 7 hours of wrapping- only prettily the first few, then I gave up and went back to the usual- perhaps next year. Then, yay, I got a portrait comission, which really set me back. I painted instead of baking. I've still to send off Nicole's,et al, presents up to New Hampshire. Obviously my #1 New Year's resolution is to get a handle on managing my time. But, enough of that= Christmas 2012 and seeing Travis and Emory again! A couple of my favorite days are Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for we shuttle back and forth between my house and Jack and Page's for eating, drinking, gifting, laughter, sometimes games, sometimes movies, but always just being in each others' company. Molly interrupted the Dr Who Christmas Special this time by swallowing the huge wad of string that had tied up the roast. Travis and Emory were sweet enough to join me at the Emergency Vet, where Molly, after being induced to vomit, rid herself of the string before it could do any damage. The kids spent the rest of their time divied up between respective parents and their friends. I had never been to Poe's Tavern on Sullivan's Island, so Trav and I ate there one afternoon and I have to agree- they have some of the BEST hamburgers around. We both like Mexican, so Juanita Greenberg's it was, where Elvis looked as though he were singing to us from his black velvet home. Travis had never been to Charles Towne Landing, so off we went there on a very pretty, slightly cool day to view various and sundry animals warming themselves in the weak, winter sun, then strolled about coming upon an ibis rookerie and watched them bathe upon landing, then sunning themselves dry. Everyone was happy with their gifts, meals, etc, but mostly for spending time with each other. I'm still looking forward to the day when we don't live so far apart. New Year's Day was spent dismantling the tree while the kids zipped back to Williamsburg and their busy, busy life there. Guess the next time we're together will be on Mother's Day weekend when Trav graduates- whoo hoo!
