Big, fluffy white with light brown patches, and golden green eyes

Calvin. A tiny, cross-eyed 4-week old kitten that I adopted at a cat show in Spartanburg, SC a mere 13 years ago. He hit 25 lbs at his prime, but I got him down to svelte 19.2 lbs so he wouldn't become diabetic. He was a sultan among cats = washed by his 2 female companions and fawned over by all that met him. Emory, at the time, my future daughter-in-law, would bring  friends over just to meet him. He loved her in return, starting to purr when he'd see her. He'd give me that look he had, would yell at me, sounding like a peacock, demanding his food, loved to rub his face against you while snagging his tooth on your leg, and he loved to have his belly rubbed. I miss him most at night. He had a ritual of playing in the toilet - splashing the water ever so loudly like a kid! then watching the waves he created while he licked his wet paw, resting on his other elbow. Then, he would plod over to the bed to lay on his pillow, always on my left side. Calvin would rest the bulk of his body on that pillow, but lay his head down on my chest, purring so loudly I wondered if I'd ever get to sleep. Of course, I did. Then, in the morning, he lay down on my right side so I could rub his fur up and down and give him big hugs - it was literally like holding on to a big stuffed animal. I have had so many pets, of which at least a kajillion were cats. But, every once in a while, one comes along with such a personality that it must be experienced to know it because there are no words with which to describe its essence, its spirit. But, thank goodness, one's spirit does not die and I like to think that, in spirit, he is still with me. I love you Calvin, and will miss you terribly.  (June ?, 1998 - October 16,2011)

Camouflaged

Pssst! Over here....shhhhh.....Don't let the Blogger BoogeyMan know, but I just got my pictures situated where I wanted them - I don't want to jinx it. Very quietly, all together now, YAY!!!! I mean..shhh...yay. :-D

Black Stabbath and Red Dread, just to name two....

My friend, Angel

October 8, 2011 - my first Roller Derby ever watching The LowCountry High Rollers. Those are just two of the players' names that I used in this post's title. All of them have some kind of twist to their names, and , since I love plays on words, I think that was my favorite part! The girls demonstrated plays and moves in slow motion, but I still couldn't keep up with who was who, what was what, and where was where once they skated about at regular speed. But, it was fun to spend an evening with my friend, Angel!!!

Pink - and Race for the Cure

October 8th. I'm sitting outside "Whitneys" at my easel, finally (the rain has kept me away for the past 2 Saturdays). And, it coincides with the barbecue fund raiser Rob and his dad, Dan, are having for Susan G Komen's Race for the Cure to create funds for breast cancer research. This month is for breast cancer awareness and the signature color, pink, is EVERYWHERE. Unfortunately, today is also the day for USC's home game, Clemson's home game and the Taste of Charleston at Boone Hall Plantation (nobody thought to check out the area's activities- oops!) so there isn't much traffic, I'm afraid. I left after 3 hours and a damn good hamburger. Will have to check back in later in the week to see the final tally and who won the portrait that I donated to the cause.

Sky blue and tea leaf green

A sea of tea!

On Sunday, October 1st, Page, Jeff and I ventured out to Wadmalaw Island to visit the Charleston Tea Plantation. Quiet, unassuming - a peaceful backdrop to a gorgeous day. It is the only tea plantation in the US and , whereas on other plantations of this size, it would take at least 500 workers, they have developed a machine to perform the bulk of the work, bringing the work force here to only four! We learned that the difference between green, pekoe and dark tea (regular) is the final drying time - none, 15 mins, and 50 mins, respectively. A tea tree? bush? plant? can live up to 100 yrs old and the new leaves that grow up to 3-5 inches tall are removed for harvest once the plants are 5 yrs old. I bought some infused with mint, and if I can ever tear myself away from my coffee and remember that I have it, I will drink a cup!

Olive Drab

Drab = sounds like a bland color, tepid, neither exciting nor depressing - just there, a little on the down side. For me, it is the color of surrender. I give up on trying to get my pictures placed where I want them to be. Oh, to have Alexa help me for she knows what to do, but , she is in New York. I tried another blog site - Word Press- and I had the same problem with the placing of photos, so I shall trudge drabbily on using this site. Actually, now that I've acquiesced to the situation, I shall return to my cheerier spirits, reveling in my artristic endeavors, adventures and activities with my friends and family as well as life in general. Ah, that's what I like to see - a smile!

Color me crazy!

Photobucket

I am going nuts over this picture thing on my blog. It's really just for me to begin with, so it doesn't have to be perfect, right? It's driving me crazy - I shouldn't quit my blog over something so silly really. Emory's friend Alexa, gets her photos on her blog perfectly every time, but, being ignorant, I don't understand her directions. Another friend of mine, Angel, has figured out another way, and will help me soon, her schedule permitting. Meanwhile, until I hear from Angel, I shant post anything, and then will, hopefully, be posting several entries. Fingers crossed!

Dark, black, etc

I'm this close to quitting this damn f*&@# ing  blog - I can't get any damn pictures to go on side by side. So, what's the point. I have now spent close to 5 hours and I still can't do it. Went to You Tube and google and you have to insert code and HTMLs all of which I haven't a f&*#@ clue about, besides, why is it so hard to put pictures on. What is the point of right, left and center  - I'm either quitting or finding a different blog site. Maybe I'm being punished for not using Picassa or whatever and just taking the pics out of the folders on my computer. I don't know but it sucks.

(10-23-11 - I was re-reading some of my entries and this is horrible! But, I was so,so frustrated - and, I have so little time to spread around that to spend so much without any good results.... Fortunately, things do turn around - yay!)
